I begin by taking a photograph of my desired image, from which I draw a basic composition on silk. The Batik process of painting with hot wax and dyes then transforms the image, creating unusual combinations of color and texture.
Creating portraits is an exercise requiring intense concentration on the model. A likeness is created by attention to detail and nuance. Pastels allow me to work in layers of color, creating a sense of volume that reflects the interaction of light and shadow. I enjoy the challenge.

Still Life painting is a beautiful way to create compositions that depict light, color and form. Subjects are abundant and readily available.
